For hospitals
Care that follows patients home.
Patients answer check-ins at home. Nurses see who has replied, who needs a call and what has changed. Cater connects that follow-up to your hospital record, in an app or web experience under the hospital’s name.
Programs hospitals can run on Cater
We plan the review schedule with your clinical team, including who responds during service hours and what happens overnight or at weekends.
Connected to your hospital’s systems
Staff use the hospital’s identity service through single sign-on. We scope, build and test HL7 or FHIR connections with your interface team so agreed information reaches Epic, Meditech or your record system.
The patient’s plan, answers and follow-up tasks sit together in the staff workspace. We map the workflow and interface-team effort with your managers before launch.
Offer an app or a text-message link, in English, French and additional community languages. Right-to-left layouts and a lightweight web experience support more patients and devices. Patient and staff tools follow WCAG 2.2 AA.
An optional human support team answers in the hospital’s name by phone and in-app chat, helping with setup, sign-in and navigation. Hospital support is staffed in Canada. Clinical questions follow the route set by your care team.
The hospital’s program, under the hospital’s name
The hospital’s name appears on the app, website and patient messages. The hospital owns its custom software and remains custodian of the records, hosted in Canada with full export available.
The annual licence covers hosting, maintenance, agreed program changes and current privacy and security documentation. Your team runs the care program; ours maintains the software.
See a discharge program in action
A fictional hospital’s after-discharge program. A patient answers a morning check-in from a text link. One answer falls outside the program’s range. “See what the nurse sees” shows the patient at the top of the review list, with the answers and a follow-up task.
Interactive product preview. The hospital, patient and answers are fictional. The hospital-record connection is simulated.
Cost and funding
Each program has a one-time launch fee and an annual licence. Gap the range most programs fall in, for the launch fee and for the annual licence We quote both for the proposed term.
A foundation gift can help fund the launch. The annual licence is an operating cost for the hospital’s budget, so both can be planned together.

For privacy, security and purchasing
- Custody and hosting. The hospital remains the health information custodian. Cater acts as its agent under a written agreement, with a separate program database and identity service hosted in Canada.
- Access and audit. Hospital SSO controls role-based access. Patient-record access is logged, including access by Cater staff under the agreement. Text notifications contain a link rather than care details.
- Review documentation. Data-flow diagrams, security controls, a business impact analysis and an accessibility conformance report against WCAG 2.2 AA. We maintain the documents and support your privacy impact and threat and risk assessments.
- Your trust and privacy centre. A public centre under the hospital’s brand explains data use, hosting, security, service providers, AI, accessibility and privacy requests. Cater maintains the platform information for hospital approval.
- AI. An optional patient assistant uses clinician-approved content and escalates concerns to the care team. Hospital conversations are processed in Canada, and program data is not used to train models.
- Supplier review. We identify service providers and their roles, complete the hospital’s questionnaires and follow its purchasing process. McCauley Studios carries cyber and errors-and-omissions insurance.
